How will be the world in next 100 years ?

LONDON — People have to be "very attentive" over the next 100 years in the face of dangers coming from progress in science and technology, physicist Stephen Hawking said.

The 74-year old Cambridge professor made the remarks in an interview with the Radio Times in response to a question about whether the world would end naturally or be ruined by humans.

Hawking said genetically engineered viruses and the the Earth faces several dangers including nuclear war, global warming, but believes that the risk of a widespread disaster is some time off — likely away years 1,000 or 10,000.

By that time, he thinks individuals will be spread out across space, meaning that what might seem like a doomsday scenario now mightn't be the end of the human race. By Hawking's approximation, we are 100 years away from going interstellar, or living in space, so we should be aware about not ruining our planet in the interim.

"Most of the threats we face come from the progress we've made in science and technology. We're not going to stop making progress, or reverse it, so we must recognise the dangers and control them we must recognise the dangers and control them," he said. "I'm an optimist and I believe we can."
